Treatment Modalities

  • EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychological therapy used to help people recover from distressing or traumatic experiences. EMDR works by supporting the brain to process memories that feel “stuck,” overwhelming, or unfinished. Through guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, the therapy helps reduce emotional intensity, shift unhelpful beliefs, and promote more adaptive coping.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR does not require detailed retelling of traumatic events. Instead, it focuses on activating the brain’s natural healing processes in a structured and safe way. Many people find EMDR helpful for trauma, anxiety, phobias, grief, and experiences that continue to affect self-esteem, relationships, or daily functioning.

At Ember & Bloom Psychology, EMDR is offered within a trauma-informed, paced, and supportive environment. The goal is to help individuals feel safer, more grounded, and more empowered as they move toward healing and resilience.

  • CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based approach that helps individuals understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It is based on the idea that unhelpful thinking patterns can influence how we feel and act — and that by learning new ways of thinking and responding, people can experience meaningful and lasting change.

CBT teaches practical skills such as identifying unhelpful thoughts, challenging or reframing them, and developing healthier coping strategies. It is commonly used to support people experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, trauma symptoms, and a range of everyday challenges.

At Ember & Bloom Psychology, CBT is delivered in a collaborative, supportive, and culturally sensitive manner. The aim is to empower individuals with tools they can use long after therapy ends, helping them navigate life with greater confidence and resilience.

  • ACT

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based therapeutic approach that helps individuals build psychological flexibility — the ability to stay present, manage difficult thoughts and emotions, and take meaningful action guided by personal values. Rather than trying to eliminate uncomfortable feelings or control every thought, ACT supports people in developing a more compassionate and spacious relationship with their inner experiences.

Through mindfulness, acceptance strategies, and values-based goal setting, ACT helps individuals move toward a life that feels purposeful and aligned with what matters most to them. It is effective for a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma-related difficulties, stress, and life transitions.

At Ember & Bloom Psychology, ACT is offered in a warm, collaborative, and strengths-focused manner. The aim is to help individuals deepen self-awareness, reduce struggle with internal experiences, and build a more fulfilling and resilient life.

  • IPT

Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) is an evidence-based treatment that focuses on improving relationships, communication patterns, and social support as a pathway to enhancing emotional wellbeing. IPT is based on the understanding that our mental health is closely connected to our relationships and life roles, and that difficulties such as depression, anxiety, or stress often arise during times of change, conflict, or loss.

IPT helps individuals explore current relationship challenges, strengthen communication skills, navigate role transitions (such as becoming a parent, changing jobs, or ending a relationship), and process unresolved grief. The therapy is structured, time-limited, and practical, with a strong focus on building healthier interpersonal patterns and greater confidence in managing relational stress.

At Ember & Bloom Psychology, IPT is delivered with warmth, collaboration, and cultural sensitivity. The goal is to support individuals in developing more satisfying relationships, improving emotional resilience, and fostering meaningful connections in their everyday lives.

  • Tuning into Teens

Tuning in to Teens® is an evidence-based, emotion-focused parenting approach designed to help parents strengthen connections with their adolescent children. Delivered in a 1:1 therapeutic format, over 8 sessions, the program supports parents to better understand their teen’s emotional world, respond to challenging behaviours with greater confidence, and foster emotional intelligence at home.

The program focuses on key skills such as emotion coaching, managing conflict, staying connected during difficult moments, and supporting teens to build resilience and self-regulation. It is particularly helpful during times of heightened stress, transitions, or when communication between parent and teenager feels strained.

At Ember & Bloom Psychology, Tuning in to Teens® is offered in a personalised, supportive, and collaborative manner. Sessions are tailored to each family’s goals, helping parents strengthen relationships, reduce conflict, and create a more emotionally attuned and compassionate environment for their teen to thrive.
